The 10 Best Apps for Editing and Planning Your Instagram

Creating the perfect feed is one of the ways many fashion bloggers and influencers get us to follow, like and ultimately obsess over their content. But with so many apps out there and truthfully so little time to really spend on editing, its hard for many of us to create swoon-worthy Insta-feeds that will take our own images and fashion fantasies to the next level. Short of purchasing Photoshop and spending hours on a desktop editing the perfect picture, here are some of our top picks to get the professional photos that will help you create the theme of your dreams.

VSCO (iOS and Android) – Free

Originally known as VSCO Cam this app is described as a ‘Community and Tools for Creators’. The app allows you to edit using sliding adjustments for brightness, contrast, clarity, sharpness, saturation, highlights, shadows, temperature and skin tone, as well as options to tint your photos. It comes with several free filters and also offers filter packs for purchase in its shop for even more options.

Snapseed (iOS and Android) – Free

Created by Google this app allows control over your photos with nine editing tools for tweaking your photos, including a brush tool that lets you selectively adjust exposure, saturation and colour temperature; and a healing tool that lets you remove blemishes or erase objects from photos completely. Snapseed also has its own set of filters sorted into categories to make selecting a theme so much easier.

Darkroom (iOS) – Free

Some have claimed that this app is better than the fan favourite VSCO with more in-depth editing options like curve adjustments, similar to what is used in Photoshop on the desktop. With the option to create your own filters after you finished editing an image it’s no wonder it is considered “the new champion of photo editing for your iPhone” – The Sweet Setup.

Adobe Photoshop Express (iOS and Android) – Free

As the name suggests this app is the phone-friendly version of the popular desktop application. This app allows you to edit your pictures and create collages. Features include basic editing options, Auto-Fix, TIFF support, blemish removal, text tool, borders and more. It also allows you to upload files from many different sources, such as your device, Creative Cloud, Dropbox, Facebook, or Google Photos.

Facetune 2 (iOS) – Free

This app gives the user a lot of features that were available in the original Facetune app without the price tag. However, like most free apps included in this list, there is still a component that is only available to those willing to pay an annual fee. The toolkit also includes tools to remove blemishes, smooth out wrinkles and lets you whiten for the perfect selfie.

Afterlight (iOS and Android) – $1.49

Previously known as Afterglow this app boasts being the “perfect image editing app for quick and straightforward editing”. With an impressive 79 filters, 78 textures, frames and cropping and transforming tools this app creates gorgeous and unique photo edits.

TouchRetouch – $2.99

Unlike many of the previously mentioned apps, this particular gem is brilliant for removing unwanted content from your images. Whether it’s a blemish or a coat hanger in a change room, this app is the fast and easy way to make distracting objects disappear from your photos.

These visual planning apps allow you to curate, caption and schedule your Instagram like a pro. Each has a free option for beginners or those with either a single platform or simple set out, before allowing those with multiple platforms or needing a professional option for an annual fee. Analytics is also available so you can keep an eye on what content is getting the most reactions and adjust accordingly.
