Designer Profile: ‘Blushed’ by Teagan Jacobs

The annual WA Born fashion show is just around the corner and we are so excited to showcase some of Perth’s most impressive talent. One such label is ‘Blushed’ by Teagan Jacobs. Her latest collection is the perfect balance of feminine and chic. We chat with her today to get the inside scoop on her inspirations and what we can expect from her in the future.

Tell me about ‘Blushed’ by Teagan Jacobs?
Blushed is a label for the artist and the daydreamer, the ultra feminine and especially whimsical.

What is the name of this season’s collection and what is the inspiration behind it?
‘Sunday’ is created for wonderfully lazy and effortlessly beautiful. Based off of a Sunday morning of coffee sipped in bed, and afternoons of caressing bed sheets.

What are your top styling tips?
Comfort is key.

What trends should be avoided?
Anything you personally don’t like, fashion is all personal preference.

When did you realise that you wanted to pursue a career in fashion?
When I was about 7 and started to design my own dance costumes.

How did you go about starting ‘Blushed’ by Teagan Jacobs?
It was a natural progression from graduating fashion school. There was a demand for my clothes and I had the drive to keep growing.

What are your feelings towards fashion and its effects on wilderness preservation, and the reduction of humanity’s footprint on the environment?
Unfortunately we live in a time where fashion is in fast demand, and consumers would rather buy fast fashion in order to accommodate quick changing micro-trends. It’s upsetting that the fashion industry is one of the biggest polluters second to oil, but thankfully there are many small businesses aware of the environmental impact and are actively making changes.

Why do you think a show like WA Born is important?
Firstly, it’s important to talk about the issues that fast fashion brings to the environment. Secondly, WA Born creates a platform for WA designers to flourish creatively, and creates opportunities for exposure and growth.

What was the biggest thing you’ve learned since starting ‘Blushed’ by Teagan Jacobs?
If you don’t keep going, you’ll never know what opportunities lie around the corner, and if those opportunities don’t arise, create your own.

Who or what is your fashion muse/inspiration?
My inspiration comes from environments, colours and emotion.

What advice would you give aspiring designers?
Don’t compare yourself to other designers, everyone works at different paces, and has different voices, that’s what makes you special.

What is your motto or what motivates you?
“Let’s get some coffee”

What goals do you have for ‘Blushed’ by Teagan Jacobs in the next 12 months?
Stockists, magazine publications, my own boutique.

Where are you currently stocked/where can we buy your pieces?

www.teaganjacobs.com

What are you currently binge watching/listening to?
Piano versions of pop songs.

What’s the most embarrassing thing on your playlist?

Every single High School Musical song, and the karaoke versions too.

And finally what’s your current guilty pleasure?

Pressing snooze on my alarm at least four times.
